| Slovenian Restructuring Aid May Lead to Biofuel Development | The lone Slovenian sugar plant is entitled to funds from the EU restructuring fund when it stops producing sugar under the 2005 EU sugar reform, the Agriculture Ministry told STA on Wednesday, 14 February. Efforts are underway to have the plant converted to biofuel production.

| Slovenia Determined to Reach Renewables Goal | Slovenia will face problems in increasing the share of renewable energy in its power consumption to 20% by 2020 as outlined by the recent EU energy strategy, Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak said at the sidelines of a conference on European Renewable Energy Policy in Brussels on Monday, 29 January.
"In 2006, the share of renewable energy amounted to 14%, far from the 20% we aim for," said Vizjak. However, he said that "we should not be too pessimistic" as "Slovenia will do everything to achieve this goal".

| Slovenia Joins Feed-In Cooperation Group | Slovenia has become the third state to take part in the International Feed-In Cooperation. Germany, Spain and Slovenia plan to work more closely together to promote renewable energy. At the European Renewable Energy Policy Conference in Brussels last week, these three countries signed a Joint Declaration to establish a basis for cooperation.

| Slovenia's Biggest Biodiesel Plant Planned | Oil refinery Nafta Lendava and its Austrian partner CMB Maschinenbau & Handels announced they would build the biggest biodiesel refinery in Slovenia and one of the largest refineries of the kind in Europe.
The 22.2 million euros refinery will open at the beginning of 2008, and its annual production of 60,000 tonnes of biodiesel will amount to 88 percent of the total production in Slovenia, one percent of the total EU production.
